Well I'm sure glad you asked! I know your time is valuable so let me explain if you're uncertain as to why you should invest your time and effort in learning Chinese.</p> <p>Firstly, it's the most spoken language in the world. Chances are high that you personally know someone (or many people!) that speaks Chinese. Maybe someone in your office? Someone from school? Maybe even your partner! Whatever the case, being able to speak the language that a billion others can understand is immensely empowering. And of course, if you plan on visiting China (as well as Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia) for business or pleasure, it will undoubtedly prove useful and enrich your experience.</p> <p>Two, China is increasingly playing an important role in global affairs, and it will continue to grow as a world power. Its economic growth and future potential are staggering. Anyone that keeps up with business publications can tell you this. Thus, knowing the language will likely increase your career prospects and opportunities. It is largely for this reason that there has been so much interest from people all over the world in learning the language. NYT reports that there are 51% more students studying the Chinese at universities in the US in 2006.</p> <p>Three, there's of course the great pleasure from learning the language itself! I know I'm biased but frankly think it's a beautiful language to learn and especially love the Chinese characters with its long history. The written language was developed over 4,000 years ago and were pictographs.</p> <h2><img alt="Expert Stuff" src="img/expert.png" width="58" height="30" />Expert Stuff</h2> <img alt="-" src="img/img2.png" class="flR" width="140" height="95" /> <p>It's widely perceived that Chinese is one of the hardest to learn. I don't believe that it's as hard as many people believe. I have both taught and met many that learned Chinese as an adult and have become fluent!</p> <p>The aim of the course that is offered to you will enable you to carry on basic conversations. If your goal is to be able to read and write at a high level, I would recommend that you start with a university in your area.
